Aloe 'Delta Light'
Aloe vera hybrid 'Delta Light'
A compact, spotted aloe variety with striking white-speckled leaves — beautiful, medicinal, and nearly impossible to kill.
Overview
Aloe 'Delta Light' is a compact hybrid aloe with striking white-speckled leaves that give it a more ornamental appearance than standard Aloe vera. Like all aloes, it stores water in its thick, fleshy leaves and is extremely drought-tolerant. The gel inside the leaves has the same soothing properties as regular Aloe vera — useful for minor burns and skin irritation. It stays compact and produces offsets (pups) that can be propagated.

Detailed Care Guide
Light
- Loves bright light — a south or west-facing windowsill is ideal
- Can tolerate bright indirect light but grows slower
- Direct sun enhances the white spotting and keeps the plant compact
- Insufficient light causes the plant to stretch and lean toward the light source
Watering
- Water every 1–2 weeks in summer — allow soil to dry completely between waterings
- In winter, reduce to every 3–4 weeks
- Overwatering causes mushy, soft leaves — the #1 mistake with aloes
- Water thoroughly when you do water, then allow to drain completely
Soil
- Cactus/succulent mix is essential — drainage is critical
- Add 30% coarse sand or perlite for extra drainage
- Never use moisture-retaining potting mixes
- Terracotta pots are ideal as they allow soil to dry faster
Temperature & Humidity
- Prefers 60–85°F (16–29°C) — cold sensitive below 50°F
- Prefers low humidity — high humidity combined with wet soil causes rot
- Excellent for warm, dry indoor environments
- Bring indoors before cold weather
Difficulty Level
Easy — thrives on neglect. The main rules are: bright light, minimal water, and excellent drainage. One of the best plants for sunny windowsills.
Extra Notes
Toxic to cats and dogs if ingested — causes vomiting and lethargy. Keep out of reach of pets. The gel inside the leaves is soothing for minor burns and skin irritation in humans — break a leaf and apply the clear gel directly to the affected area.
Pro Tip
The white spotting on the leaves is most pronounced when the plant gets plenty of direct sun. Move it to your sunniest windowsill for the most striking appearance.
New to this plant?
Just Received This Plant?
If you just received a cutting or node: allow any cut surfaces to callous for 24 hours before potting. Plant in dry cactus mix in a small pot with drainage. Do not water for 1 week. Place in bright indirect light to start, then gradually move to a sunny windowsill. Once established, water every 1–2 weeks in summer. These are very resilient — the biggest risk is overwatering.
If you just received a potted plant: unbox and place in bright direct to indirect light. Do not water for 1 week after arrival — let the roots settle. Check that the pot has excellent drainage. Expect the plant to look slightly stressed for a few days — normal adjustment. Do not fertilize for 6–8 weeks. The white spotting will become more pronounced as the plant settles into its new light conditions.
Basic Care Instructions
Place in bright direct to indirect light, water every 1–2 weeks in summer and every 3–4 weeks in winter allowing soil to dry completely, and keep in low humidity. Fertilize once in spring. Thrives on neglect — less water is always better.
Propagation
Produces offsets (pups) around the base. Separate when pups have their own leaves, allow cut to callous for a day, then pot in dry cactus mix.
Common Problems & Fixes

Overwatering — allow to dry completely and reduce watering frequency
Brown, crispy leaf tips
